“Jesus spoke to the people once more and said, “I am the light of the world. If you follow me, you won’t have to walk in darkness, because you will have the light that leads to life.” John 8:12 (NLT)
Here we find Jesus addressing the crowd after forgiving a woman caught in adultery. His words, “He that is without sin, let him cast the first stone” caused the angry mob to put do…wn their rocks and leave her alone. Jesus’ words caused them to see the sin in their own lives and they were ashamed. He gave them light and it altered their treatment of the woman. When we are reminded of our own sin and how much love God has shown us, it alters how we treat others. We become agents of mercy and grace rather than accusers. The devil is the accuser of the brethren. We must not do his job for him. Whether it’s your spouse, relative, pastor, or friend who should have known better, you must show mercy and love. They are still your brother or sister in Christ. In God’s eyes, there is no small or great sin. Every sin we commit is worthy of death. But thank God, Jesus paid the price so that we all can be forgiven and washed with His blood. There’s no greater feeling than to be forgiven.
Prayer: I receive Your word today. Thank You for the love and mercy You have shown towards me. Help me show it to others. I won’t condemn my brothers or sisters. I pray You are merciful toward them and that they receive forgiveness and the help they need. In Jesus‘ name, Amen.
A sincere thank you to our Devotional Writers.
