A Better Way to Live

Posted on Posted in devotions

Early one morning, I decided to make a quick run to the grocery store.  I ran inside and picked up one of the baskets near the front entrance and began to shop.  As I’m placing different items in the basket, I begin to notice that it becomes increasingly heavy.  I then picked up a gallon of milk and glanced at the basket that I’ve been carrying around the store, and wondered, “How am I going to carry this heavy basket with this big gallon of milk added to it?” Just as I was about to figure out a way, a gentleman stopped me.  He said, “You know ma’am, you don’t have to carry that basket like that.”  I didn’t understand what he was talking about until he walked over, pulled a lever from the side of the basket and suddenly transformed it into something that rolled on the floor.  I then laughed and thanked him for showing me a better way to carry something that had become so heavy.  So many of us women today are walking through life carrying heavy loads, and just when we figure out how to carry one load, another one gets added on top of it.  We can think to ourselves, “This is absolutely unbearable!” However, Jesus does for us the same thing that nice gentleman did for me in the grocery store.  He shows us a better way. Jesus has borne our griefs and carried our sorrows on the cross (see Isaiah 53:4). He carried it and took upon Himself all of the weight that could ever weigh us down in life. He did that for us so that we could live a life that’s filled with His joy and grace.  Through receiving what He did for us on the cross, we become someone that can really live and enjoy life.  Allow Jesus the opportunity to step in, and transform your life, and show you a better way to live!

Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy-laden and overburdened, and I will cause you to rest. [I will ease and relieve and refresh your souls.]Take My yoke upon you and learn of Me, for I am gentle (meek) and humble (lowly) in heart, and you will find rest (relief and ease and refreshment and recreation and blessed quiet) for your souls.” John 15:5 (Amplified)

Father God,
Thank You for what Jesus did on the cross. He bore my griefs and carried my sorrows. Everything that would ever seem too hard to bear in my life, Jesus carried it for me. Now because of what He did, I can enjoy the life you’ve given me and face challenges with peace and grace.  I ask that You reveal to me more the meaning of what was accomplished on the day He died and rose.  I don’t want to spend another day overburdened and weighed down. I receive Your rest and Your joy.   In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
