A Choice

Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced His perfect Love.” 1 John 4:18 (NLT)

Fear is an emotion that has the ability to grip us with deadly force. It seems as though there is no other emotion that can cause such an array of others including pain, sorrow, despair, terror, anxiety, jealousy, insecurity, hopelessness, confusion, depression. Though, what is so absolutely absurd about all of this is that fear is a choice. Truly everything is a choice, especially in our faith. Forgiveness or un-forgiveness, love or hate, belief or disbelief, hope or hopelessness, fear or peace. In everything, we have to choose. Following the Lords way doesn’t designate our pain, losses or worth as insignificant. It just says, “I choose You Jesus” and leads us into greater victory and relationship with God by doing so. So “…let us come boldly to the throne of our gracious God. There we will receive His mercy, and we will find grace to help us when we need it most” (Hebrews 4:16).

Prayer: Dear God, I choose to draw near to You and trust You with my heart. Help me to learn how to “fully experience Your perfect Love” with a desire to sit in the warmth of Your Word. I choose thoughts and words of praise lifted up to You, no matter what is happening in my life. I want to find the true way to “expel all fear” by understanding Your perfect love for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
