“Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” 1 Peter 3:6 (KJV)
From Scripture, we learn that Sarah was like so many of us today. She followed her husband from place to place, went along with his plots and schemes, and he went along with hers. When it came down to what God wanted to birth through her, she doubted. She had a hard time believing God would give her a son in her old age, and even went as far as to try to help Him out in creating Ishmael, as if God needed any help.
How did God respond? He changed her name from Sarai to Sarah, from meaning “quarrelsome” to “lady, princess, noblewoman” as defined in Hebrew. God reminded her of His great promise to her and assured her that nothing was too hard for Him. Sarah’s faith eventually kicked in and she gave birth to God’s promise for her life! Go Sarah!
The great news is, Sarah is your spiritual ancestor and you are her spiritual daughter! As her daughter, it is in your nature to trust God and wait on Him to do what He said He would do! It is in your nature to receive from God even when you’ve failed. Embrace your true identity and receive your rich spiritual heritage. You are a daughter of Sarah!
Prayer: Father, thank You for such a rich heritage! No matter how I feel, to know that I am a daughter of Sarah, gives me hope and faith in believing Your promises. I choose to trust in You just as Sarah did. I choose to go after your will for my life just as she did. I embrace who I am in You in this very moment and I pray You continue to help me understand my true identity and rich heritage. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
