“And for their sakes I sanctify myself, that they also might be sanctified through the truth.” John 17:19 (KJV)
Have you ever been asked to be in a girlfriend’s wedding? What if she asked you to be her maid of honor? You probably said, “Yes! I feel honored and I would love to!” What if she then told you that your maid of honor dress would cost $500 and that she expected you to pay for it? All of that excitement you felt would leave right at that moment. Would you pay $500 for a dress or would you say, “No! I’m sorry, I’m not paying that! That’s way too much money for a dress that I’m only wearing once.” When God calls us, we tend to get excited that we’ve been called by Him. We are overjoyed at the thought of being used by God. It can make us feel special. Maybe someone asked you to serve as a leader of a church auxiliary and you felt honored at the request. However, serving God in any capacity requires not just your time, skill and resources, but all of you. It requires a steadfast love, a consistent prayer life and application of God’s Word. God wants to use you in your home, community and in the workplace, but you must be willing to pay the cost. Yes, it will require everything in you, but the reward of changing lives for the glory of God is priceless. It’s worth the cost.
Prayer: Father, I’ll pay the cost. I want to be used by You in whatever way You decide to use me. I choose not to shrink back from the expensive cost involved in serving You. Use me Father to bring honor to Your glorious name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
