Are you listening?

“Get wisdom; get insight; do not forget, and do not turn away from the words of my mouth. Do not forsake her, and she will keep you; love her, and she will guard you. The beginning of wisdom is this: Get wisdom, and whatever you get, get insight” Proverbs 4:5-7, ESV.

When my mother told me as a child not to touch the stove because it’s hot, I listened and didn’t touch the stove. When she told me as a teenager to leave certain girls alone because they meant me no good, I listened and left those girls alone. When she told me as a young adult to stay focused on finishing college and not let anything throw me off course, thank God I listened and finished school. It wasn’t her wisdom alone that did it, it was me listening to her that saved my life. Likewise, it’s not God’s wisdom alone that will do it for you, it’s you listening to Him that will save your life.

My sister, what is God telling you? What hot situation has He told you not to touch? What relationship has He instructed you to leave alone? What has He told you to stay focused on finishing and not allow anything or anyone to distract you or throw you off course?

Are you listening to Him?

I have found in my life the voice of God sounds much like the gentle voice of a wise mother. However, it is up to you and I to say, “Yes, Lord!” and do what He says.

If you’re praying for wisdom, I challenge you to read the Book of Proverbs. There’s all sorts of wisdom nuggets that deal with everyday life. If reading the entire book is too difficult for you, take one chapter a day and meditate on the wisdom you discover. God only wants the best for you, but you have to listen to Him and do what He says.

Prayer: Father God, I pray you forgive me for every time I didn’t listen to you. Help me God to listen. Give me a teachable and quiet spirit. I don’t want to go through unnecessary heartache because I didn’t listen to you. You know what’s best for me and you have my best interest in mind. I trust you. I want to be wise Lord and follow hard after you. Help me to grow in wisdom and in grace. Be glorified in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

  1. I’m a survivor of domestic violence, I believe it’s very important to listen to His leading. Loneliness to me now is just time to get to know yourself learn who you are in Him . There’s no greater love them that of our father in heaven.

  2. I have just broken off a relationship because God said that he would hurt me so bad… I listened but it gets hard sometimes because I do get lonely sometimes…keep me lifted in prayer…The devotion is on point and I thank God for this ministry.

    1. Sp from one single sister to another what I can say that helped me during that time is to really inject myself in my spiritual walk. Do not sit at home being lonely with your thouggts; start going out with friends, get more get more involved in church, join five Ministries if you too lol. Send time with family, whatever it is you can do besides being alone and isolated because that’s where thoughts come in and then think about the bigger picture. Hope that helps

    2. God told me to break off a relationship in a prophecy before it even started and I did a dance with a man I loved more than anything else for 10 years. God knew the begin before the end and boy was he right! He hurt me multiple times throughtout the “relationship” only really it was a situationship. It was an open relationship (he manipulated me into) and I dated other people. Some of which loved and desired me the same way I did him. Anyways what I’m trying to say is…God knows whats best. It is up to us to listen and take heed. He knows what we need when we need it!
