Beauty for Ashes

Posted on Posted in devotions

To appoint unto them that mourn in Zion, to give unto them beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, the garment of praise for the spirit of heaviness; that they might be called trees of righteousness, the planting of the LORD, that he might be glorified.” Isaiah 61:3 (KJV)

When something has turned to ashes, it symbolizes that it is no longer what it used to be. A house could have stood tall on the corner of a street, providing shelter for all that lived within it, but a fire could destroy that house within minutes and cause it to no longer be what it once was. Just like a house destroyed in a fire, negative experiences can change you. Yet, God gives beauty for ashes. Every negative life changing experience that was intended by Satan to destroy you, God takes your life and makes all things new, beautiful and better than before. He takes your spirit of heaviness and robes you with a garment of praise. He takes your tears and mourning over what took place and gives you His precious oil of joy. He then firmly plants you and causes everyone that saw your demise, to say, “Look! She is a tree of righteousness!” Don’t receive the lies of the enemy. He is a liar. God is true. You are a tree of righteousness. You are the planting of the Lord. You are a daughter of the King of kings. You will fulfill your divine purpose. You will do every work God has preordained for you to do. You will finish your course will joy. Out of your belly shall flow rivers of living water. Whatever the enemy has meant for your bad, God is turning it around for your good and He is making all things new in your life for His glory!

Prayer: Father God, I receive this in the depths of my heart. Help me let go of the destructive events of my past and move forward in faith and trust in You. Give me beauty for ashes. Take this spirit of heaviness away, and robe me with a garment of praise. Give me the oil of joy for mourning. Establish me in Your righteousness and be glorified in me. In Jesus’ name. Amen.
