On this day, millions of Christians all over the world celebrate the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ. In some parts of the world, people light lanterns, give away chocolate cakes and participate in festivals. While in other parts of the world, it is a time to eat marshmallow bunnies, dress the kids in cute pastel-colored clothes, and participate in Easter egg hunts. While chocolate bunnies taste delicious, it has nothing to do with Jesus. Eat the candy, but don’t do it because you are celebrating Jesus’ resurrection. Have the egg hunts, but don’t do it out of reverence for Jesus. This is a time to rejoice because Jesus lives and because He lives, we live! Our sins no longer separate us from a loving Father, because Jesus lives! We have hope and a bright future, because He lives! Everything works for our good, because He lives! We have power and authority over sickness and disease, because He lives! We have freedom to walk in newness of life, because He lives! Glory to God! That’s enough to lift our hands and shout, run, and dance about! Because He lives, we live!
“And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross. Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name: That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.” (Philippians 2:8-11 KJV)
Prayer: Father, thank you for sending Your Son to die for me. You raised Him from the dead with Your power and because He lives, I live! I’ve been made new and right with You. Help me to honor His sacrifice by surrendering my life to Your purpose and plans. Use me to tell others that He lives! Help me live in such a way that brings glory to His name. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
