“But he gives more grace. Therefore it says, “God opposes the proud, but gives grace to the humble.” James 4:6, ESV
When something is too hard for me to open I call on my husband. I need his strength and muscles to do what I can’t do on my own: like open a tightly closed jar that he himself closed, or move a heavy piece of furniture, or kill a large bug. I call on him like it’s second nature, and he comes to my aid right away.
The grace of God operates much in the same way. The Holy Spirit is called the Spirit of Grace. He is our Helper, Strengthener, and Standby, who helps us do what is impossible for us to do on our own: like forgive someone that has hurt us, fulfill a calling amid pressures to quit, love those around us unconditionally, live in the moment, and not forget the truth and power of God’s Word.
In my spiritual walk, I am learning day by day to call on Grace just like I call on my husband. I don’t want to wait until a situation proves too difficult for me. I want to be proactive and shout, “Grace!!!!! I need you!”
Maybe you’ve been so accustomed to doing everything on your own that it has hardened you and made you tough and self-reliant. It’s ok to let someone stronger than you help you. Call on Grace, dear. He will come to your aid right away. Oh yes, He will.
Prayer: Grace, I need you!!!! I can’t do this alone. It’s too much for me to handle, but nothing’s too much for you, Lord. Help me with your Grace and Power! Strengthen me, Lord to do what you’re asking of me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
