“Seek the Lord and his strength; seek his presence continually!” 1 Chronicles 16:11
Relationships take time, care, and effort. Whatever relationship you are in, whether marriage, friendship, dating, parenting, etc, it takes discipline. It takes extra care to have a healthy relationship and time has to be set apart for one another. We have to take the time to get to know one another. We have to press into each other and build trust. We have to be vulnerable and transparent. It is necessary to be open and honest. To get on a personal level, we have to strip off our masks that we wear and be real. Healthy relationships are about intimacy.
If I think of mine and my husband’s relationship, we know so much about each other, but there are still so many juicy details to learn. Every day of our lives we are getting to know each other better. I know his ins and outs, yet I am still learning new things about him. It is amazing how many layers there are in a person.
Relationships with people are very similar to our relationship with God. Our relationship with God takes time care and effort. We need to set time apart to spend in our Fathers presence. We have to press into Him. We have to take the time to get to know God by spending time in prayer, reading our Bibles, and through fellowship. Our relationship with God depends on our intimacy with Him. In prayer, we have to be sincere, transparent and real with Him. The only difference with God is, He is always there. He doesn’t leave us, and is available for us at any moment during the day. He always shows up.
Are you taking the time to strengthen your relationship with your Father God? Are you seeking Him, making time for Him, trusting Him, opening up to Him? God is constant. Always the same, from the beginning and to the end. But it is us, in our human nature that become distant and closed off. We forget to make precious dates to build our love with Our God. Even if you have spent your entire life getting to know God, don’t you think there are many more layers to unfold?
Prayer: Father God, forgive me for not always taking time for You. I thank You that Your love never changes. Help me to have the discipline to strengthen our relationship. Help me take the time to care for our relationship. Teach me how to fall in love with You. Show me how to love You like You love me. Relationships are two-way streets, help me to show up in ours! In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
