“Let me be weighed on honest scales, that God may know my integrity. If my step has turned from the way, or my heart walked after my eyes, or if any spot adheres to my hands, then let me sow, and another eat; yes, let my harvest be rooted out.” Job 31:6-8 (NKJV)
Job clearly was in the midst of a change of life. His once peaceful existence was completely disrupted in one day. He lost everything except his life in twenty-four hours. Even his friends began to wonder how Job had offended God to bring about such terrible consequences. Job had to know if he had lost his way. When bad things happen, we often quickly analyze our life to see where we went wrong. As Christians, we often wonder if we have somehow offended God bringing about such punishment. Those who are intent on a good “life” will quickly recalculate their course and forget about following God for the moment. Those with a heart and passion for God choose the course that Job decided upon. This man of God asked the Lord to weigh him on a scale of integrity. Job wanted to walk with God even in the midst of great trials. He went one step further and challenged God to continue to bring adversity until his life was balanced and in check with God. Who would ask the Lord to allow continued trials and tribulations in the midst of such circumstances? Only someone purposed in their heart to never fear change more than God.
Are you that person? Have you purposed in your heart to love God and submit to His will no matter what? When you do, God will heap His Grace and Mercy upon your life. Let His Word become a guide that leads you through the pitfalls and danger zones of life. Let God increase you in wisdom and knowledge so that you can trust Him with every step you take.
Prayer: Father God, I thank You for guiding me through life’s many changes. Help me trust You even when it’s not clear what You are doing in my life. Man tries to convince me that trusting You is dangerous and is a careless way to live. But I believe in You is the safest place in the world. Help me move when You move, speak when You speak, love what You love and hate what You hate. Direct my steps into the promises that You have stored up for me. In Jesus name, Amen.
