“For I am the Lord your God who takes hold of your right hand and says to you, Do not fear; I will help you.” Isaiah 41:13 NIV
Has the spirit of fear kept you from being blessed and in turn being a blessing to others? I’m sure that everyone reading this today can attest that they have experienced fear before, and that’s ok! You see, God doesn’t expect that we never “feel” fear, nor does He expect us to never be confronted by it, but He does expect us to not submit to it.
Fear is not a feeling or an emotion, fear is a spirit (2 Timothy 1:7) and so therefore it must be dealt with as such. In other words, although you may “feel” fear, you don’t have to be bound by it. You can, through an intimate relationship with Christ, face fear head on, because He has promised to always go before you.
According to the scriptures, boldness and courage are commandments. Joshua 1:9 “Have I not commanded you? Be strong and courageous. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged, for the LORD your God will be with you wherever you go.” Courage doesn’t imply an absence of fear, it just means that “fear” has said it’s prayers and decided to go forward anyways. We have to attack it with the assurance and the faith that comes from knowing the One whom you represent (Jesus). The One who had every reason to fear, but Who also had everything He needed in order to remain in peace. If He faced every obstacle imaginable, and yet fulfilled His purpose, then so can you.
Declare this with me today: I will no longer allow the spirit of fear to cheat me out of everything God has stored up in heaven for my life. Although I will feel fear, I will not be intimidated by this spirit any longer. I will obey God regardless of how I feel. In the name of Jesus, Amen.
