Do You Love Me More Than These?

“So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord: thou knowest that I love thee.  He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.”  John 21:15

Everyday we are faced with another decision.  Decisions to increase, grow, prosper, etc. But the most important thing to consider is will this decision bring you closer to the LORD or further away from Him?  We see this in scripture after Jesus appeared to His disciples and ate with them.  Peter, a fisherman by profession, was blessed once again with a boat load of fish.  But we must remember that Peter was a man of influence who had a great assignment ahead of him.  Once he announced he was going fishing, the other disciples that were with him agreed to go as well (v. 3).  All night they fished and caught nothing.  Jesus appeared to them in the morning, but they did not know it was him and inquired if they caught anything.  Their answer was “no” proving once again that we can do nothing without Him.  Jesus then told them exactly where to place the net and when they did they had a multitude of fish (v.6).  After realizing it was the LORD, they dined and then Jesus asked Peter a question, “Do you love me more than these?”  Jesus asked Peter this question three times and each time Peter said “yes”.  Jesus did bless His disciples with increase, but that blessing did not mean He had forgotten what He wanted them to do.  That blessing did not suggest that Peter was off the hook from his assignment from the Lord.  But what the Lord did do was to shine a light on where Peter’s heart really was.  He is doing the same for you today.  He is asking you, “Do you love me more than these?”  Do you love Him more than the blessings He provides for you, more than the doors He has opened for you, more than the favor He has given you?  Daughters of the King, we cannot ignore the assignment upon our life or the truth that we influence other people who will follow our lead.  We must be willing to follow His leading without having all the answers, but in total, absolute trust that HE will work it out.  Tell the LORD, “Yes, I love you more than these!” and watch Him do even more with your life for HIS glory!

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father, I declare before You that I love You more than anything You have ever done for me.  I declare to You that You are first in my life and I will complete Your assignment for my life.  I totally trust You and thank You for leading and guiding me in the right direction and helping me to make right decisions.  In Jesus’ Name I pray. Amen.
