Do you love Me?

“A third time he asked him, “Simon son of John, do you love me?” Peter was hurt that Jesus asked the question a third time. He said, “Lord, you know everything. You know that I love you.” Jesus said, “Then feed my sheep” John 21:17, NLT.

After Peter denied ever knowing Jesus, he was feeling really down and depressed. However, notice Jesus’ response. He didn’t shake Peter violently and say, “Don’t you know how much I love you!” Instead, He asked him three times, “Do you love Me?” Each time Peter responded with an emphatic, “Yes Lord, I love you!”

When a sister in Christ falls into sin, so often we try to remind her of how much God loves her. Maybe we assume she’s forgotten. Truth is, we know God loves us, what we have trouble remembering is how much we love Him—especially when we’ve fallen. The enemy speaks loudly in our ears, “If you really loved God you wouldn’t have done what you did! You don’t really love Him like you say you do! Look at you!” So imagine what happens when we follow the example of Jesus, and remind our sister that she does love God. It will silence the enemy and set her free to live again!

No matter what you did, deep in your heart there’s a love for God that still remains. And because you love Him, you will obey Him. Because you love Him, you will honor Him with your life. You’ll be just like Peter who was later used by God to win thousands of people to the Lord. You too will be used mightily by God and He will be glorified in your life!

Say from your heart today, “Jesus, I love you. I don’t care what the devil is saying, and I don’t care how I feel, I love you, and I’m sorry for everything. I receive your forgiveness, and I ask that you heal and restore me. Rescue me from this pit and use me for your glory. In your name I pray, Amen.”

  1. The Lord is indeed worthy to be praised! I was filled with doubt and felt cut off…but today’s (1/21) devotion reminded me that God still loves me no matter what. Thank you so very much!
