Don’t Draw Back

Posted on Posted in devotions

Do you remember the old Indiana Jones movies?  The goal of the main character was to retrieve a lost medallion or some valuable item.  The key was to continue moving forward or he would risk death.  It was suspenseful to watch because although you knew he would make it out in the end, he often came so close to being destroyed.  This is such a great picture of what life is like for believers.  We risk it all in our quest for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.  We endure trials and tribulations, and the closer we get to God, the more tribulations we endure, yet God always causes us to triumph through Christ!  Just as in the movie, the most important thing is to keep moving forward in faith and going after God with everything we have.  There’s a prize in front of you that won’t manifest without you employing everything within you to obtain it.  You may have never prayed longer than 15 minutes at a time.  You may have never fasted a day in your life.  You may have never fully given yourself completely to God.  The danger in this is when you fail to move forward and progress, you begin to draw back unto destruction.  There is no stand still in God.  If you aren’t progressing, you are going backwards to your own demise and ruin.  Don’t go back.  There’s nothing for you back there but heartache, loss and regret.  Keep your eyes on the prize, and keep persevering by faith.  You will win if you keep moving forward in God.

Now the just shall live by faith; but if anyone draws back, my soul has no pleasure in him. But we are not of those who draw back to perdition, but of those who believe to the saving of the soul.” (Hebrews 10:38-39 NKJV)
Prayer: Father, I praise You today.  You sure know how to keep me on the straight and narrow way.  I choose not to be complacent or half-step when it comes to pursuing You.  Help me keep my eyes stayed on You and on the prize of being all that You called me to be.  Propel me forward.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.

Dear Devotional Reader,

We are thankful you have been so blessed by our daily devotional. Recently, it has been brought to our attention by a number of readers that some of the scriptural references have been incorrect.  We deeply apologize and I take full responsibility. Thank you for helping to make us better and we assure you that all scripture references will be correct going forward.
