Don’t Let Them Size You Up

Posted on Posted in devotions

In some people’s eyes you’ll always be too young, too old, too short, too big, too unequipped, too new, too poor, too messed up, too inexperienced, too far out in your ideas, or too this or that to do what you feel called to do.  In their eyes you’re not qualified because of your station in life, but don’t let people size you up!  Don’t become discouraged when those around you count you out because you don’t meet their qualifications.  What did God tell the prophet Jeremiah who felt like he was too young?  He told him, “Don’t say that you are too young? For you will go to whomever I send you and you will speak (Jeremiah 1:7).”  What did God tell Moses who had a terrible speech impediment?” He told him, “I will be with your mouth and I will give you what to say (Exodus 4:10-12)!”  What did God use the Apostle Paul to tell Timothy when he felt like a novice and was afraid to take on the role of pastor, He told him, “Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but be an example (1 Timothy 4:11-14).”  Don’t let the limitations that others put on you become limitations that you put on yourself.  Move on and show them with your life and your example, with your faith and your integrity, with your love and your fruit, that you are the right woman for the job!  They may have sized you up and said that you can’t, but God has sized you up and said through Jesus you can do it!

Don’t let anyone put you down because you’re young. Teach believers with your life: by word, by demeanor, by love, by faith, by integrity. Stay at your post reading Scripture, giving counsel, teaching. And that special gift of ministry you were given when the leaders of the church laid hands on you and prayed—keep that dusted off and in use.” 1Timothy 4:11-14 (MSG)

I choose not to give any attention to the limitations that others try to put on me.  I pray You help others focus on the work You have called them to do and I choose to go full steam ahead in doing what You have given me to do.  Through Jesus, I can do it!  I receive Your encouragement now.  In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
