“Don’t copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will learn to know God’s will for you, which is good and pleasing and perfect.” Romans 12:2 (NLT)
Traumatized by her past experiences, she refused to enter into my apartment community. All she remembered were the “bad” kids and all of the vandalism that took place when she lived there. Even two years later those memories were still vivid in her mind. So she dropped me and my son off near the entrance and said, “I’m sorry I can’t give you front door service. But I’m not going in there. I can’t.” We kindly got out of the car and I thanked her for the help.
Are you letting past hurts and fears control your life? Are you only going so far in loving others because you are afraid? If we allow it, the enemy will build strongholds in our minds as a result of negative experiences we have faced. These strongholds tell us, “No one will ever do that to me again!” And our behavior and our responses show it. Whatever is hindering you from loving others completely, or living truly free in Christ and being the blessing God has called you to be, God’s truth and grace can help you. The truth of God’s Word is powerful enough to destroy every stronghold that is hindering you. But it’s not truth alone. It will take word and actions. There will be no breakthrough in your life unless you face your fears and trust God.
Prayer: Father God, I thank You for ministering to my heart with Your truth. Help me face my fears and deal with the experiences of my past that have limited me. Whatever needs changing in my life, help me change it by Your grace. I pray You heal my heart completely and destroy every stronghold in my mind that’s hindering my progress. Help me God. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
