Fight to Believe

“Fight the good fight of faith, lay hold on eternal life, whereunto thou art also called, and hast professed a good profession before many witnesses.” 1 Timothy 6:13

According to Vine’s Expository Dictionary of New Testament Words, the word “fight” means to contend in the public games, to engage in conflict, metaphorically to contend perseveringly against opposition and temptation, to strive as in a contest for a prize, straining every nerve to attain to the object, to put forth every effort, involving toil, to wrestle earnestly in prayer.

Anything worth having is worth fighting for. And nothing is worth more than laying hold on eternal life, that wonderful prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus. It is not received without a fight, without contending, without standing against opposition, enduring trials and tribulations, and passing all manner of tests. We are in a battle and the enemy will stop at nothing to try to steal, kill, and destroy our lives, our vision, our families, and our souls, but we have the victory and we overcome through our faith. If you think the enemy is just going to sit back and let you lay hold on God’s promise for your life without a real fight, you are sadly mistaken. Everything, including the kitchen sink, will be thrown at you the moment you choose to believe God’s Word and act on it. When everything has been unleashed against you, the Holy Spirit will teach you how to fight! Your weapons are spiritual, not fleshly. Until the fight is over, you will be in a war against your faith, but it’s a good fight for a great cause. Let your faith in God and His Word, be the wind behind you that propels you forward.

Prayer: Father God, I believe You are real. I believe Your Word is true. I believe You are on my side and that I have the victory through Christ. No matter what I am facing right now, I know I’m not facing it alone. You are with me. You live within me. You are for me. Teach my hands to war. Teach me how to run in such a way that I will win the prize. Be glorified in me. In the Name of Jesus, Amen.
