Financial Peace

Posted on Posted in devotions
It was a typical Wednesday morning.  It was time to take my husband to work, but I was so tired that I decided to forgo changing out of my pajamas.  “I’ll just throw on my slippers, put on a coat, and comb my hair,” I said to myself.  “Besides I’m coming right back home anyways.”  I did the same with my children and off we went.  On the way to our destination, I made a sharp right turn and hit the curb.  Everything seemed to be fine until the tire pressure light went off on the dashboard just as we reached the office.  “I did it again,” I thought to myself, “I blew out the back tire.”  So after a spare tire change and a two hour wait in a service department, I was told the tire would need to be ordered, the brake pads were thinning, the cabin filters needed to be replaced, and it was time for an oil change.  I can’t say that I was happy about sitting in a lobby in my pajamas with my two kids under the circumstances, but I can say that I had financial peace.  Thanks to the wisdom and guidance of the Holy Spirit, my husband and I prepared for the what ifs of life by establishing an emergency fund.  While sitting there I never once worried about how we were going to fund it because we had already prepared for it.
There are times in life that come unexpectedly no matter how much we plan.  But as we seek God’s will for our lives, He will show us how to properly prepare for the future just as He showed Joseph how to prepare for the coming famine (Genesis 45:25-36).  Despite hard times, everyone in Egypt and the surrounding areas were able to survive the seven year famine.  In the end, Joseph ended up saving his own family. Just as God gave Joseph a plan, He can give us a plan on how to live within our means and save for the future.  Then you will not only be prepared for the what ifs in life, but you will also be in a place where you are capable of being a blessing to others.
Divide your portion to seven, or even to eight, for you do not know what misfortune may occur on the earth.” Ecclesiastes 11:2 (NASB)
Prayer Starter: Father, I thank you for meeting every single one of my needs according to your riches and glory.  I thank you that I do not have to worry about what I will eat or drink or wear because you know my every need.  As I seek your kingdom guide me through your Holy Spirit on how to properly manage what you have given me.  Give me wisdom to prepare for the future and enable me to be a blessing to others financially.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
