Forsaken

“Though my father and mother forsake me, the Lord will receive me.” Psalm 27:10 (NIV)

Sadly, many of us have never known what it’s like to have a loving father or mother.  Whatever the reason may be, we have had to endure life without an unconditional parental love that our heart deeply desires.  Maybe you never met your father or your mother abandoned you when you needed her most.  Some parents struggle with addiction and aren’t capable of providing what their children need.  What if it were abuse or neglect?  The list of reasons, excused or not, can go on and on, but one thing remains the same.  There is a void left behind in a child’s heart when an earthly parent forsakes them.

For those who can relate or that are willing to spread the good news, we have a Heavenly Father who so graciously wants to step in and provide the love, acceptance, and assurance that our heart desires.  He knows exactly how to mend our broken hearts and can help us forgive and let go of what we wished we had and embrace what only He can give.  Call out to Him for help.  Call out to Him to show you His all sufficient love.  Cry out to Him to fill the void that has haunted you for years and He will do just that.  God is all we’ve ever needed and with or without healthy parental relationships, He will never leave or forsake us.

Prayer:  Dear Lord, our hearts have been broken for years as we have mourned unhealthy or nonexistent relationships with our parents.  We feel betrayed and hurt that we’ve never had what we thought we needed and wanted.  But God, help us believe that You love us beyond our comprehension and we ask that You show us the love that only You can give.  Remind us daily that even though our earthly parents have forsaken us, You never will.  Help us move past the pain and accept that You are all we need.  Thank you Lord.  Amen.
