Free to Be You

“Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us. They will reign over the fish in the sea, the birds in the sky, the livestock, all the wild animals on the earth, and the small animals that scurry along the ground.” (Genesis 1:26 NLT)

If you have ever been to a museum, you find that there are one dimensional paintings and then there are sculptures.  The paintings are observed at a distance and only one side is viewed.  However, sculptures are walked around and observed more closely at different angles.  So often people will try to make you into a painting that hang on a wall.  Only appreciating one side of you.  It’s really not their fault because that may be the only side you reveal.  You do those around you a great disservice when you fail to be yourself.  There are many sides of you just as there are many sides of God.  He is holy, creative, a know it all, He has a sense of humor and He is a lavish giver.  You are made in His image and likeness, and until you learn to be yourself you will never be free.  If you allow people to, they will pick and choose the one side of you that they enjoy most and want you to just be that way.  What this does is hold you hostage and doesn’t set you free to be yourself.  Be yourself lest you die.  You are not a one dimensional painting.  You are a beautiful three dimensional sculpture designed by God that is meant to be walked around and admired and appreciated at every angle.  Your most healthy and rewarding relationships will always be those that set you free to be you.

Prayer: Father, I am truly made in Your image and likeness. You are beautiful at every angle and You are real.  Help me to be the woman that You have created me to be.  Help me to be free to be myself in You.  In Jesus name, Amen.

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
