“Wisdom is the principal thing; therefore get wisdom. And in all your getting, get understanding” Proverbs 4:7, NKJV.
“Discretion will preserve you; understanding will keep you” Proverbs 2:11, NKJV.
“Good understanding wins favor, but the way of the transgressor is hard [like the barren, dry soil or the impassable swamp]” Proverbs 13:15, Amplified.
I’ve done some foolish things in my life. One time, to celebrate our one year anniversary, my husband and I took all of our savings and paid to stay at an island resort that cost 1,000 US dollars per night. We were so broke while at the resort that we didn’t have enough money to eat. We couldn’t enjoy any of the amenities. All we could do was observe the view…of other people enjoying themselves. I can’t count how many foolish decisions I’ve made. So when God took someone like me and made me wise, it was a miracle!
The Bible says, God’s Word makes wise the simple. He gives understanding and common sense to those who have none so we can live the life He destined for us to live. When we find ourselves making one foolish decision after another, this is when we say to ourselves, “Girl, you need understanding!”
Understanding can be found in three distinct places: In God’s Word, in our personal life experiences and in the experiences of others.
I challenge you today: “Open your Bible to Psalms 19:7 and say this out loud: Father, I thank you for your Word. Your Word is able to make me wise. Your Word is able to convert my soul and transform my life. Your Word enlightens my darkness and helps me to see things right. You said understanding will keep me, and Lord, I want to be kept. I want to be wise. I ask that you give me wisdom, knowledge and understanding. In Jesus’ name, Amen.”
