“There is a river whose streams make glad the city of God, the holy place where the Most High dwells. God is within her, she will not fall; God will help her at break of day.” (Psalm 46:4-5 NIV)
Recently I found myself in a new environment. I was definitely the minority and instead of being confident in the different perspective I could bring, I found myself comparing and feeling insecure. I struggled with these feelings for a couple of weeks. So I prayed about it and one day while I was walking in the woods, God spoke to me. Just then this indescribable peace came over me. My heart became warm as I received the words spoken to me, “You are doing fine. I am well pleased with you and I love you. I am here.” In the days that proceeded and followed that day in the woods, I had also been repeatedly drawn to Psalm 46:4-5. I read it every night before bed, although I wasn’t sure why, and let it fill me up. That whole time God had been reaching out to me to remind me that I was just fine. While I had been holding myself against impossible standards and comparing myself to others, He wanted me to know that He is within me, he created me as I am, and that I make him proud just as I am. He made sure that his daughter did not fall.
Sometimes we find ourselves comparing ourselves to and striving to be like others for many different reasons. However, the truth is that God created each one of us differently and uniquely and we should accept ourselves as such. God’s glory and purpose is found in each one of our testimonies no matter what we look like or where we come from. And it’s all beautiful! Receive this reminder today that you are just fine the way he created you. You make glad the city of God. He is within you, and you will not fall.
Prayer: Father I thank you for always reaching into my heart with the truth and reminding me of who I am. I know that I am created in your image and I will walk in the fullness of your grace and love. I will remember that if I cling to you, I will never fall. In Jesus name, Amen.
