God, You are My God

When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, for You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy. My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.” Psalms 63:6-8 (KJV)

While in the hospital with my three month old son as he lay in intensive care fighting for his life, I stole away for a moment to be alone—just me and God.  Sitting in the chapel of the hospital, I couldn’t say anything, yet God knew everything I wanted to say.  I opened the Bible and He began to comfort me with this Psalm, speaking directly to my heart with His Word.  David’s prayer became my prayer, “When I remember You on my bed, I meditate on You in the night watches, for You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.  My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.”  These words touched a place so deep within me.  I had to remember that God had been my help throughout the years of my life and had proven Himself to be real time and time again.  It was then that I resolved in my heart that if God had been my help then, He was my help now and I would do just as David did and rejoice and sing for joy in the shadow of His wings.  God has been your help.  Has He not?  If He was your help then, He is your help now.  Let your soul cling to Him as He upholds you with His right hand.

Prayer:  Father, You are my God.  Thank You for comforting me with Your Word.  You have been my help, and in the shadow of Your wings I sing for joy.  My soul clings to You; Your right hand upholds me.  I pray that You strengthen Your people with these words.  I pray You comfort all of the victims of the typhoon in the Philippines. Send monetary aid and support from all over the world.  In Jesus’ name, Amen.
