While teaching my son to tie his shoes he became frustrated and began to cry. Something about that bunny going around the tree and into the hole wasn’t adding up in his precious mind. He was afraid to make a mistake. I had to explain to him that making mistakes is a part of learning and if he keeps trying he will get it. I took out a sheet of paper and set a goal of ten tries to learn to tie his shoes. I then wrote a check mark every time he made a mistake and gave him a high five. After six failed attempts a determined look came on his face. He wanted to reach the goal. He didn’t want ten failed attempts. So he kept trying and now he knows how to tie his shoes like a pro. Making mistakes in life is a part of learning. If we keep at it, before long we will master that area if we keep trying. Many of us play it safe in life because we are afraid of failure. Or we may step out and try something and because we mess up one time we give up all together. What can we ever accomplish in life if we fear failure? We must realize that making mistakes is a part of life. We must keep trying! Keep at it! Before long we will master it! We can master any skill, any character trait, and so many other things when we have determination.
“For I can do everything through Christ, who gives me strength.” (Philippians 4:13 NLT)
Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me to be courageous and determined to keep trying in life. I choose not to fear failure because I know there’s nothing to fear in You. I exercise my faith and trust in You. I keep my hands to the plow and I know that You will cause me to win if I don’t lose heart. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
