“…He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.” John 6:47
In four keys places in Scripture, we discover the words of Jesus as He shares what happens when we believe on Him:
- He that believes on Me has everlasting life. (see John 6:47)
- He that believes on Me shall never thirst. (see John 6:35)
- He that believes on Me, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (see John 7:38)
- He that believes on Me, the works that I do, shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go to my Father. (see John 14:12)
Upon first hearing these blessings that occur in the life of someone that believes on Jesus, our natural response can be to raise our hand as though in a classroom and say, “Oh pick me Lord! I want to believe!” We desperately want to believe. There’s a part of us that know there is more to life than what we’ve seen and experienced. We’ve only seen glimpses of what we are capable of receiving and doing for God’s glory.
And for many of us, our physical surroundings and home atmosphere is so full of doubt and unbelief that we have to fight to hold on to the little faith we have. So we pray “Lord, I want to believe in You like I never have before, but I need your help. Help me believe,” which is a prayer God never refuses. Not only will He help you believe, He will grace you to do the impossible.
Don’t be afraid to do the works of Jesus, it is Him doing the works through you. Don’t be afraid to touch the world, it is Him touching the world through you. Don’t be afraid to never thirst again. Don’t be afraid to live life as God has it. Don’t be afraid to believe.
Prayer: That you Father for speaking directly to me. Help these words enter my heart and change my life. Help me believe on you. In Jesus name I pray. Amen.
