“Jesus replied, “But even more blessed are all who hear the word of God and put it into practice.” Luke 11:28, New Living Translation
Often we find ourselves in desperate situations, needing direction for our lives. In our impatience and stubbornness, we tend to demand from God a quick, audible response. We fail to realize that the Lord is capable of speaking to us through many different ways.
I can recall a very difficult season in my life, a desperate season that lead me to relentlessly seek just one audible word from the Lord. I wanted that one audible word that I knew had the power to change my circumstances. I was interested in a quick fix, but God was more interested in drawing me closer to His Word. The Bible became my daily bread and daily conversations with Him led me victoriously through the darkest and driest seasons I have ever experienced. The more time I spent marinating on the Word, the more God would speak into my Heart. The Word of God became a mirror that would reflect His Son Jesus Christ. It became a mirror that awakened in me a desire to imitate Him in my life by praying for others, showing generosity, visiting others with words of encouragement, and even sharing certain Scriptures with certain people. Later I would realize that it was exactly what they needed to hear at that very moment of crisis. As I walked in obedience to what I read, I was able to hear His audible voice.
Obedience is key to hearing God audibly.
God is saying to you today:
“If you are interested in what I have to say, why didn’t you do the last thing I told you through My Word? Obedience initiates and keeps the dialog going between you and Me. If you refuse to do what I tell you in the little things, like reading your Bible on a daily basis, you risk deafening your spiritual ear to ever hearing Me audibly. Have not I said, ‘My sheep hear My voice and follow Me?’ So don’t sit back and wait for Me to speak to you in the ways YOU want Me to. Begin obeying Me through My written Word and the rest will follow.”
Prayer: Thank you Father God for speaking to me in any way or form you choose. I pray that you construct in me a receptive heart, and I pray your words become Rhema in my spirit which will lead me daily through the path of righteousness for your glory. In Jesus name, Amen!
