Hidden Treasure

“If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you” (James 1:5, NIV).

People love to play hide-and-seek games. From the earliest games of peek-a-boo in a high chair, to searching for mommy in the house, to playing hiding games with the neighborhood kids, and all the way to treasure hunt games on the computer and real-life scavenger hunts—searching for something or someone is just plain fun. When we find what we’ve been seeking, oh, the joy!

Did you know that God offers us the treasure of wisdom and knowledge? When we seek Jesus (through reading the Bible) our eyes are opened. We don’t have to wander aimlessly searching. The Bible tells us exactly how we can find this treasure.

James writes, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you.”

Why is the wisdom and knowledge of Jesus so important to us as Daughters of the King?

So that “no one takes [us] captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ” (Colossians 2:8, NIV). This same chapter in Colossians also explains that in God’s great mystery—Christ—are hidden all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge.

As you read the Word, pray that it will make you wise so that you can stand against the whims of the world, so that you can pass on to your children a living faith, so that you will be a light in the darkness.

Seek, and you will find the greatest treasure ever known. “For where your treasure is, there your heart will be also” (Matthew 6:21, NIV).

Prayer: I want to take part in finding the treasure of Your wisdom and knowledge, Lord. As I read my Bible, help me to gain the wisdom and knowledge that You have for me. Thank You for Your precious Word! Amen.
