To our modern day society, the word “holy” means something that has holes in it. We have gotten so far away from holiness that we no longer know what it means. We think holiness is old-fashioned living, long dresses and no makeup, praying loud and long, looking deep and serious, and carrying a huge coffee table Bible. Because we have not embraced the true meaning of holiness as women, our lives, our homes, our marriages, our children are all messed up. What is holiness? Holiness is being morally blameless. It’s the difference between pure mountain water and the stuff that comes out of the tap that tastes like rusted pipes. There are people that would travel for miles to taste something that is pure. They would pay extra money at the store for a bottle of water that’s pure. They would purchase a water filtration system in order to have something in their home that tastes pure. We recognize the value of pure water. God recognizes the value of a pure life. God’s word in the Bible is pure and holy. His character is pure and holy. His love is pure and holy. Nothing is evil or dark about Him and He expects the same of us. The closer we get to Him and the more we learn about Him, the more we will begin to live holy just like Him.
“But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price. For after this manner in the old time the holy women also, who trusted in God, adorned themselves, being in subjection unto their own husbands: Even as Sara obeyed Abraham, calling him lord: whose daughters ye are, as long as ye do well, and are not afraid with any amazement.” (1 Peter 3:4-6 KJV)
Prayer: Father, You are holy. Everything about You is pure and sacred. Make me holy like You. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
