Some of us grew up in households where our mothers were good wives to our father. How did we know they were good wives? We figure, “well they rarely argued and there was always peace in the home.” From this example we framed our outlook on marriage, thinking “my marriage will be like that someday”. Some of us never had this privilege and do not know what a good wife looks like. We knew how to be a girlfriend, how to be a fiance, but there are some of us that wake up after our honeymoon and think, “how in the world do I be a wife?” Whether you had a healthy example from your childhood or maybe you didn’t have an example at all, every woman finds that every marriage is as different as our fingerprint, because every man is different. The way to become a better wife is not by trying to emulate someone else’s marriage but to ask God to show you how to be a wife to your husband. Your husband is unique and so your approach to being a wife that perfectly fits and adapts to him will need to be unique. God will help you fit him like a hand in glove and there will be peace between you and less friction because you’ve let go all of your past examples and allowed God to show you how to be his good thing.
“Now the Lord God said, It is not good (sufficient, satisfactory) that the man should be alone; I will make him a helper (suitable, adapted, complementary) for him.” Genesis 2:18 (Amplified)
You have shown me how to be a friend, how to be a student, how to be a sister, how to be a business woman. Lord, now I need you to show me how to be a wife to my husband. He is different and unique and I need you to help me fit and adapt to Him. Teach me how to bring out the best in him. Give me understanding on how to be his wife. I’m all ears Lord and my heart is open to receive instruction from You. In Jesus Name, Amen.
