“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the Lord, I will be joyful in God my savior.” Habakkuk 3:17-18 (NIV)
While many find themselves in abundance this holiday season, maybe you are not. Do you find yourself without enough money to put food on the table? Or maybe, for whatever reason, you find yourself separate from friends and family and are feeling down and alone. It seems as though, this season, for you, could be a season of drought.
But whatever may be the source of your lack, you still have many things to thank God for. You still have the gift of salvation. You still have the gift of forgiveness. You still have the gift of the Holy Spirit who goes with you wherever you go. You still have God’s love, grace and peace at your hand, everyday. You still have tomorrow to greet with a clean slate, new hopes and new opportunities. And, you still have Jesus and no set of circumstances can separate you from any of this. When you think about it this way, you still have quite a lot! So during this holiday season, be thankful that you are wealthy because you have all of these things. And what you’re lacking, God will provide according to the riches of his glory. You will not starve and you will not always be physically alone. Keep going, keep thanking Him and you may see that this time next year will look totally different for you.
Prayer: Father although I may not have everything I want and need right at this moment, I thank you that I still have you. You are a loving Father and I know that you will meet all of my needs. I am thankful that you have prepared for me a seat at your table and I receive all of the gifts that you have given me. In Jesus name, amen.
