Is He The Right One For Me?

While at the grocery store, here I am standing in front of a tall bin of watermelons. I don’t know what to look for in a ripe one, so I ask someone standing nearby, “Is this a good watermelon?” The person then comes over. They hold it, look closely at it, and place their ear next to it, all to determine if it’s ripe or not. What is a good watermelon? It’s one that’s sweet to the taste, juicy, and is absolutely delicious. Because I know what it’s like to taste both a good and bad watermelon, I don’t mind receiving advice before making a selection. If that person looks at me and says, “Yes, I think you have a keeper!”, I’ll smile, buy it and rush home to enjoy it. Why is it that we can ask for advice before we purchase a $5 watermelon that we will enjoy only for a few days, and yet there are women that won’t ask for advice before they marry a man they are to enjoy for a lifetime? Marriage can be the closest thing to heaven or hell on earth. When you get it right, boy oh boy, it can be fun and beautiful. However, when you get it wrong, man oh man, it can be downright difficult. No matter how in love you may feel you are, always ask someone, “Hey, what do you think?” Remember that before you will belong to any man, you first belong to God. You are the apple of His eye and He knows exactly who’s best for you. So the first person you should ask, before you go to anyone else, is God. He will give you peace in your heart that you are making the right decision and will send others your way to confirm it. Marriage is the most important decision you will ever make next to salvation, so it’s important to receive counsel from God, your Pastor, trusted friends and family, as well as premarital counseling before saying, “I do”. You’ll be so glad you did!

“Where no wise guidance is, the people fall, but in the multitude of counselors there is safety.” Proverbs 11:14 (AMP)

Father God,
You created marriage to be wonderful. I pray for those who are single and that sincerely desire to be married. I pray you help them seek out Godly counsel before they enter into a marriage covenant. Help them pay close attention to Your peace and follow hard after it. You desire only the best for Your daughters. Help them to not settle or rush into marriage prematurely. I pray they have Your best. In Jesus’ name, Amen.

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
