“Looking unto Jesus, the author and finisher of our faith, who for the joy that was set before Him endured the cross, despising the shame, and has sat down at the right hand of the throne of God” Hebrews 12:2, NKJV.
I wondered how was Jesus able to endure the cross. How was He able to experience the great level of pain and bitter hostility against Himself? Yes, He endured and won the victory, but how? He focused on the joy that was set before Him. What was the joy that helped Him endure such physical, mental and emotional agony? I believe the joy set before Him was the joy of any son…to please His Father and be where He is.
You see, if you’re going to endure all that life throws at you, you have to look to something greater than the people within your sphere of influence. The joy set before you must be greater because the pain and agony in this life will be great. The Bible tells us who has been set before us—it is Jesus! He is our example. He is the Author and Finisher of our faith. He is the reason why we persevere. Fix your eyes on Him. Learn from Him. Let Him teach you everything He knows about endurance and living victoriously!
Prayer: LORD, I thank you for hearing and answering me whenever I pray. Help me to fix my eyes on the prize. You are the joy set before me. Everything I do is for you. Keep my eyes and my heart fixed on you no matter what comes my way. I long to please you and be where you are. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
