“House and riches are the inheritance of fathers: and a prudent wife is from the LORD.” Proverbs 19:14 (KJV)
The Bible says that a prudent wife is from the Lord. To be prudent means to be wise, circumspect and intelligent. No woman is born prudent. It takes times and effort. When I first married my husband, I thought all it took to be a good wife was to satisfy his basic needs. I thought that if I loved him, fed him, rubbed him, and prayed for him, I was good to go. Sounds like I was caring for a pet, not a grown man. I soon discovered it was not that simple. I had to go from being just a good wife to learning how to be the wife God called me to be—a prudent wife. It’s more than cooking a great meal; it’s being a great person. We can cook and keep an immaculate home, but if we are argumentative, unforgiving and resentful, no one will want to live with us. If we always overspend and our husbands constantly have to work through financial problems we cause, we aren’t being wise. We must learn to be prudent (wise, intelligent and walk circumspectly). This will cause us to be pleasing to God and an even greater blessing.
Prayer: Father, show me how to be a prudent and wise wife. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
