Let Your Light Shine

Posted on Posted in devotions

It doesn’t take a genius to realize that these are dark times in the world today. Studies show 1 in 10 adults in the US alone report depression. We are seeing a sharp rise in suicide rates, an increase in child abuse cases and domestic violence. The divorce rate has shot through the roof and if all of this wasn’t enough, many have grown tired and offended with church and have given up on organized religion. In this time there is a need for those blessed ones who possess the light of the Gospel to shine like never before. There’s a great need for us all to not play in the dark, but stand out from the world and be examples of what a true believer in God is. How many people at your job even know that you love God? How many of your neighbors know that Jesus is the Lord of your life? How many of your friends and family know it or do they only see you running the streets and hitting up the club with them? Do they only see you telling them the right things to do but not living it yourself? God has called us to stand out and display the light of Christ in how we live, in how we manage our home, in our business, etc. Everything in our life is supposed to have the glowing luminescent residue of the incredible love and light of Jesus.

“Here’s another way to put it: You’re here to be light, bringing out the God-colors in the world. God is not a secret to be kept. We’re going public with this, as public as a city on a hill. If I make you light-bearers, you don’t think I’m going to hide you under a bucket, do you? I’m putting you on a light stand. Now that I’ve put you there on a hilltop, on a light stand—shine! Keep open house; be generous with your lives. By opening up to others, you’ll prompt people to open up with God, this generous Father in heaven.” Matthew 5:14-16 (MSG)

Father God,
This world is in need of Your amazing light like never before. With all of the darkness around, so many people are looking for light. Let Your light shine through me and in all of Your people. May we stand out, brave, strong, and courageous, with hearts full of love. Position us on the mountain top and on top of the hill so we can display Your power and glory. Help us stay reminded that it’s all about You. In Jesus’ name I pray, Amen.

A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
