I was depressed and upset…..upset at God for not giving me children as easily as He seemed to be giving them to others. It had been over two years. During the course of that time I had doctors suggesting that something could be wrong, fellow believers suggesting I was barren, and a battle ensuing in my mind over whether God would give me children or not. It was never a question of whether He could, that I knew to be true. But I questioned whether He would. After having the thoughts of so many others clouding my mind, I called out to God and asked Him to speak to me. I wanted to hear His voice and His voice alone. I didn’t want a prophetic word from someone else or an encouraging prayer from a well meaning loved one. I just wanted to hear directly from Him. That’s when God reminded me that every time I pick up the Bible and read it, He is speaking to me. Whenever I read a promise written in His word concerning my situation, He is speaking to me. God can and does speak to us in an audible voice concerning our personal lives, but He always speaks to us through His word. If you find yourself asking God to speak to you, be sure to make yourself available to hearing Him through His word. What does the Bible say about your situation? That’s exactly what God is speaking to you today.
“All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.” (2 Timothy 3:16, 17 NLT)
Prayer starter: Lord, thank you for leading and guiding me through your word. Help me to understand that every time I read it you are talking directly to me. In Jesus name, Amen.
A sincere thank you to our Daughters of the King Daily Devotional Writers.
