Make Your Request

“Be careful for nothing; but in every thing by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your request be known unto God. And the peace of God, which passeth all understanding, shall keep your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” Philippians 4:6-7 (KJV)

If you take a listen around you, you will hear many conversations often filled with complaining and problems with no suggestions of a way out.  But for the believer, although there are times when we want to join in and do the same thing, we are instructed by the Word of God to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might (Ephesians 6:10).  Besides, at the very foundation of these actions is fear, anxiety and worry which will hinder our faith.  We are not to be anxious, full of care or take thought for “no thing”.  We are to “in every thing”, meaning always, daily, thoroughly, in every way by (1) prayer, (2) supplication and (3) thanksgiving let our request be made known to God.  Notice what the scripture does not say.  It does not say, make your complaining and problems known to God.  No, it says make your “request” known to Him.  In other words, what do you want Him to do for you?  What do you want Him to do about your situation?  This approach is quite different from the world’s way of dealing with situations.  Although you may feel better after complaining, this is not pleasing to God.  He wants you to master your feelings by His power and not follow the world’s way of dealing with problems.  But wait there is more.  After you have made your request to your Heavenly Father, Daughter of the King, He follows up with a promise.  He gives you His peace that passes all understanding which has the ability to keep your heart and to keep your mind.  His peace will mount guard and protect your heart and your mind through Christ Jesus.  Glory to God!  The peace of God is an impenetrable wall which anxiety, fear and worry cannot enter!  But this only comes after you have prayed, supplicated, gave thanks and made your request known to God.  So, do not give in to complaining, but talk to your Heavenly Father about your situation through prayer, thank Him for His goodness and make your request to Him.  He will keep you in His peace!

Prayer:  Dear Heavenly Father, I purpose not to spend my time complaining and worrying, but I will pray to You.  I will give You thanks because You are good all of the time.  I will make my request known to You.  Thank you for Your peace that guards my heart and my mind.  In Jesus’ name I pray.  Amen.
