“There are many crisis in the world, spinach on the wall isn’t one of them.” As a mom of three little ones, I am constantly making big deals out of small things. Spills on shirts…dirt in hair…yellow or red for conduct…well maybe I should stay on top of that one. Nevertheless, this quote caused me to have yet another light bulb moment. I am learning, AGAIN that there are and will continue to be times when beds wont get made, shoes and toys will mysteriously make their way BACK to the middle of the floor or my son will stand in front of the TV, grinning, with his back to my daughter blocking her view as she screams and cries. Now what has stuck out to me the most in these instances is not my kids’ actions but my reactions. I tend to either blow up outwardly or silently internalize the situations. Neither is healthy. What I have learned is that these reactions are most prevalent when I am running on little sleep, have overloaded the family schedule, and have shoved prayer to the bottom of my list of things to do. While it is the goal of my husband and I to raise godly children who are respectful and obedient, along the journey, I must remind myself that just a few, short years ago, these precious babies didn’t even exist. We are all learning here. So be easy, Mom. Don’t sweat the small stuff. Remember to talk to God regularly. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have a food fight to start.…..now where’s that spinach?
“Don’t you see that children are God’s best gift? The fruit of the womb his generous legacy?”
Psalm 127:3 (MSG)
I so thank You for the wonderful gifts You have given me. God, show me what I need to do in my life to slow down so that I can hear from you concerning my kids. I want to be a mother that You can be proud of so that I can raise children to be adults that You are proud of. Pull the plug on any dead areas in my schedule that doesn’t benefit You. Help me to have healthy eating and sleeping habits and to honor my time with You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
