Mutual Love

“And hope does not put us to shame, because God’s love has been poured into our hearts through the Holy Spirit who has been given to us.” Romans 5:5, ESV.

Love has to be mutual. It’s when you have real love for someone and they have real love for you. God’s will for you is not to be in a one-sided relationship. You have to make sure that there is real love from both of you because a marriage cannot stand permanently on a one-sided love, just as you can’t permanently stand on one foot. As much love as God has for us, He wants us to love Him with all our heart, mind, soul and strength. Our relationship with Him cannot stand on His love alone. We have to love Him in return. This is why He poured His love into our hearts by His Spirit so we can love Him and others like He loves us.

It is through the love that He has poured in our hearts that makes us able to love Him. In this same way, if you notice you or your spouse does not have real love for each other, yet you desire to, God can put His love in your heart for each other. It is the miraculous power of God at work that creates love and affection for your spouse that you didn’t have before.

Prayer: Lord, I recognize my husband doesn’t have real love for me. I pray that You work in him the will and to do what pleases You. Turn his heart to me. Give him a love and an affection for me. Help me to be patient while You work in him. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
