The sweetest thing to a person’s ear is when another calls them by their name. As women, we are often called by several names throughout our lives. We start off with family names, then we grow into nicknames. However, as we face the joys and challenges of life…what we do tends to replace them all. We become referred to as girlfriend, BFF, roommate, student, sister, wife, mother, Soror, grandmother, manager, boss-lady, teacher and cancer survivor (to say the least). As a result we find ourselves acting according to what we have been called. Its time for us to remember our name and act according to ‘whom we’ve been called’. We were created by God himself as a gift and helper to Man. He made each of us with special gifts and abilities to be used for His Glory. As we draw closer to Him, He promised to draw closer to us. It is here that we get to know Him by his many names so that we can claim our inheritance. It is here that our joy is realized. It is here that we will finally see and accept the name that the King of Kings has crowned us with: Daughter.
“But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, God’s special possession, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.” 1 Peter 2:9 (NIV)
It is so easy for me to forget who I am when I neglect to commune with you. I need you Father. Renew the thirst that I had for you when you first called me. Let me keep my eyes on you Lord. Help me to remember your names because they each hold a unique promise to me and remind me of who I am in you. I am your daughter and you are my King. In Jesus’ Name I pray, Amen.
