One morning, my son came and stood next to me. I asked him how was his sleep and if he had good dreams. He smiled and said, “Yes! I had a dream I was in heaven!” I responded with, “Oh wow, you did? That’s awesome!” As many of us do when we feel our child is making up stories. So I asked him, “What was it like in heaven and what did you see?” He said he saw Jesus and He looked strong and powerful. He said Jesus showed him how strong He is and that lightning came out of His hands. He then said, “I actually want to go to heaven someday. I’m not afraid of God anymore!” Then he walked away and began to play with his siblings. I stood there in complete awe that my son had an encounter with the Lord. It caused him to no longer be afraid. When you have a real encounter with Jesus, you are no longer afraid. His love removes all fear and courage rises in your heart. You are no longer afraid to do what He tells you to do, say what He tells you to say, and go where He tells you to go. When you have a real encounter with the Lord, you are no longer afraid to be who God made you to be. Don’t approach your time with God as a chore or a spiritual duty! Every time you pray or open your Bible, you have an opportunity to have a life-changing encounter with the Lord. You have a chance to see Him for Who He truly is and see yourself the way He sees you! The more you learn about Him, the more courage will rise in your heart! His perfect love will cast out all fear and you will do what you thought you never could!
“We know how much God loves us, and we have put our trust in his love. God is love, and all who live in love live in God, and God lives in them. And as we live in God, our love grows more perfect. So we will not be afraid on the day of judgment, but we can face him with confidence because we live like Jesus here in this world. Such love has no fear, because perfect love expels all fear. If we are afraid, it is for fear of punishment, and this shows that we have not fully experienced his perfect love. We love each other because he loved us first.” (1 John 4:16-19 NLT)
Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me learn more about You. The more I understand about You, the less afraid I am. Show me who You truly are and make Yourself real to me. I thank You my days of walking in fear are over and is a thing of the past. Because of You, I have courage and faith. You are with me and You are for me. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
