No Need to Force It

“For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them.” Ephesians 2:10 (KJV)

While watching my daughter practice for her solo dance ministry performance, I wanted to jump in and really show her how to do it. It was her first time and I wanted to make sure she did it right. But before I could jump in with my unsolicited advice and assistance, I immediately heard Holy Spirit speak to my heart, “If you push her to do it your way, it will discourage her and she will not want to do it at all. Let her dance her way. Trust her.” Thank God I listened! I let her continue to practice and resisted every urge to show her anything. When she was finished practicing, I hugged and kissed her, and told her how proud I was of her. The big day came. She stood in front of our church and danced to her favorite worship song. I sat nearby, pushing back tears. She was amazing. So graceful. So confident. Smiling the entire time. She showed me another side of herself on that day and Holy Spirit taught me a very important lesson. The Spirit of God never pushes us, never forces us to do anything. He gives us room to discover who we are in Him and who He is in us. His goal is to build our confidence. My daughter’s confidence soared that day, and all I gave her was my love and support. Is not this what we all desire to have in our lives? Not more advice or another prophetic word. We all crave love and support. Don’t force your way on those around you. Even with the best intentions, it can be discouraging. Trust the Lord. Give people room to grow and discover for themselves who God is and who they are in Him. You will be amazed at what God can do when you let God have His way in people’s lives. He can do a far greater job than you ever could.

Prayer: Yes, Lord. I receive Your wisdom in my heart. Forgive me if I have been pushy and forceful. That’s not like You. You are so patient with me, so loving and gracious toward me. Help me to be the same way with those You have placed in my life. Help my husband grow spiritually and develop His confidence in You. Help my children discover You for themselves and fulfill Your purpose. Help my sisters in Christ grow and be all that You have called them to be. I trust You. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
