“But by the grace of God I am what I am: and his grace which was bestowed upon me was not in vain; but I laboured more abundantly than they all: yet not I, but the grace of God which was with me.” 1 Corinthians 15:10
Over the course of my life, I have felt the need to prove myself. I have wanted to prove that I have what it takes, prove that I can win, prove that I am brave and strong, and prove that I can overcome any obstacle. I associated my self-worth with doing, when my self-worth should be associated with being. The truth is, no one expected me to prove anything. Not even God. He loves me simply because He made me. God loves you because He made you. You are His. Never associate your self-worth with accomplishment anything. Simply be who God made you to be. Jesus has already proven everything there is to prove. He has already won the victory and has sat down at the right hand of the Father. You are seated with Him in heavenly places, and the only thing that is left to do is receive what He has already done and provided for. You have nothing to prove! You can’t prove anything anyway because everything you do is done as a result of God’s grace and His power. When you begin to think to yourself, “This is why God loves me, because I do this or that” or “This is why people love me, because I do this or that”, that is false thinking, and is spiritual pride at the root. Humble yourself.
God, nor people that genuinely love you, are in your life because of what you do or because of what you can do for them. They are there because they love you just for who you are. Love yourself the same way. If you didn’t accomplish anything, He still loves you. If you sat on every gift and talent and didn’t do anything with them, He still loves you. If you did everything right or messed everything up, He still loves you. His love is not connected to what you do. Let His love flood your heart today. Just be who He has made you to be and you’d be surprised the great things God will enable you to do by simply being.
Prayer: Father, thank You for loving me. I have tried to prove myself and the only thing I have proven is that I can do nothing without You. I can’t prove anything. I can’t do anything on my own. It is You that gives me the strength and ability I need to do. Help me not focus on doing, but being. Renew my mind to the fact that Jesus has already done everything there is to do and all I need to do is be who I am in Christ. Thank You Lord. In Jesus’ Name, Amen.
