On Purpose

“For I know the thoughts and plans that I have for you, says the Lord, thoughts and plans for welfare and peace and not for evil, to give you hope in your final outcome.” (Jeremiah 29:11)

How many of us wake up to live ON PURPOSE?  How many of the things we do during the course of the day are done ON PURPOSE?What is purpose?  Purpose is the reason why something or someone exists.  To live on Purpose means to live for someone or something other than you. God doesn’t need you here to suck up air. When God called you, he called you to fulfill his purpose. There is something that each one of us can do very uniquely that cannot be duplicated.

So many people end up dying without living out their purpose. Many people don’t even know they have one, therefore, they never ask God to show them what it is. In seeking out your purpose, you will have to take a change of course. You will have to give up some things as well as some people.  You will go into a very uncomfortable place.  God wants to know exactly how willing you are to do his will for your life.   Your character has to become that of God’s. This is the place of pruning.  There will have to be a change of attitude as well as your thoughts.

I can remember picking up the book “Purpose Driven Life” By Rick Warren. It wasn’t until that very moment that I came to realize that I had something to do and that something was bigger than me. During that season in my life, I was suicidal. I needed to know that I had a reason to live. Many times we can allow everyday circumstances to get the best of us. Once we feel as though we are losing control, it is easy to want to just give up.

I have been actively seeking my purpose since the end of 2004.  Since then, God has been preparing me one step at a time. Every relationship, trial and test has prepared me for this very moment.

Life can be so much better if we just submit to his will.  When you die, how do you want people to remember you? Will they be able to say that you lived on Purpose? Will people miss anything about you or will they be happy that you are gone?

Prayer: Lord thank you for creating us on purpose to live a life of purpose.  Help us to keep in mind that this life is not about us. We realize sometimes we allow our selfishness to set in and get in the way of our purpose.  Continue to give us knowledge, wisdom and strength to continue this journey and do things on purpose.  Father we thank you for giving us a reason to live. Amen.
