If your tears have been your food at night, fret not, there is one who hears. I can recall times when my tears were my food because I did not believe that God could hear someone like me. I measured God’s grace by my own worthiness to receive it. I did not believe that He would answer my prayers in secret because I had not done enough ‘good deeds’ to earn that privilege. As I learned more about Jesus, I realized that I did not have to try to clean myself up before going to Him because that was His purpose in dying on the cross for me. He gave me a new definition of ‘grace’ and a new freedom in ‘confession’. As a result, I have turned my focus away from ‘does he hear me?’ to ‘yes, I’m listening’.
“And if by grace, then it cannot be based on works; if it were, grace would no longer be grace.” Romans 11:6
Father, thank you for sending us your Son to cover the debt that we ourselves could not re-pay with ‘our good deeds’. I am so grateful that you are a God who hears and that you love me enough to not remain silent. Give me a thirst to hear more from you and a heart to receive what you have to say. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
