Perfect Love

“I pray that Christ will live in your hearts because of your faith. I pray that your life will be strong in love and be built on love. And I pray that you and all God’s holy people will have the power to understand the greatness of Christ’s love—how wide, how long, how high, and how deep that love is” (Ephesians 3:17–18, ERV).

Have you ever noticed how some people can stay afloat when surrounded by troubles and hardships, while others sink to the bottom? What sets the swimmers apart from the sinkers? One of the biggest factors is faith that GOD LOVES THEM!

It is His love that sustains and preserves us. When we have faith in His love, we can rest assured that He will bring us safely to shore. These are just some of the things that come to mind when we think about the love of God:

  • Perfect
  • Freely Given
  • Unconditional
  • Everlasting

His love is perfect. Many things are beautiful and wonderful, but there is no perfect love apart from the love of God. We live in an imperfect world, with imperfect people, and in imperfect conditions, but His love makes it possible to weather any storm. He is perfect, and so is His love.

His love is freely given. It’s not something that we have to work for, earn‚ or prove that we’re worthy of; it’s free! Even when we fall short of His glory and even when we stumble, He still loves us. If we had to earn God’s love, then none of us would have it, because we’re all men and women of flesh with weaknesses and frailties.

In His divine foresight and wisdom, God knew that we would fail Him on a daily basis. Yet He still chose to love us with no strings attached. He still chose to send His only Son to die for all humanity in order to regain the relationship and intimacy that we once had. Adam experienced God’s love on a daily basis, but after his fall, we were separated from God. But in His infinite, supernatural, and mysterious love for us, God became flesh and shed His own blood so that we can be reconciled with that love.

His love is unconditional. He doesn’t only love us in the good times, but He also loves us in the bad times. He doesn’t just love us when we’re happy, progressing in the school of life, or making a positive difference in the lives of others. He loves us when we’re up and when we’re down. He loves us when we’re well and when we’re sick. He loves us when we do things worthy of His praise and when we don’t. Just to think that there isn’t even one condition to His love is truly amazing!

His love is everlasting. It’s not something that will be here one day and gone the next. The love of God will not expire or fade away. It can’t be stolen or forfeited. It doesn’t get old or go out of style. Even before we knew Him, He loved us. He has loved us from the very beginning of time, and He will love us throughout eternity.

Being confident in how much God loves you won’t just make you happier, but it will change your whole perspective on life. When you are assured of His love for you, when you trust and believe in it, then that knowledge will steady you and give you peace. His love is strong enough to see you through anything. It’s durable, dependable, and forever!

His love is all you need!

Prayer: Thank You heavenly Father for Your love. Thank You because You loved me before I even acknowledged You. Lord, I pray that You will help me understand the depth, the height, the width, and the length of Your precious love. Thank You for preserving my life and for keeping me under Your wings. I accept Your love, and I pray that You help me radiate that love everywhere I go. In the name of Your precious Son, Jesus Christ. Amen!
