Persevere Through the Bad and the Good

Posted on Posted in devotions

“Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything.” James 1:2-4

How sweet it is to commune with God, to feel His love, learn His wisdom and experience His power. It is wonderful! Just when you find yourself enjoying a state of peace from your communion with God, the enemy sends a trial that is difficult, emotionally challenging and that tests everything you know to be true. In these moments it can be difficult to understand how and why your circumstances have changed so drastically. But understand this, everything you go through is working for your good and for the glory of God. You may say, “Well, how can this horrible situation be working for my good? How can my husband leaving me and our kids be for my good? How can suffering financial ruin be for my good?” These are the questions of the heart that only God’s word provide answers for. What does God’s word say? “The Lord is good and His mercy endures forever!” God is good even when people and situations aren’t.

You may be experiencing everything bad, but trust in the goodness of God. Let Him produce in you a persevering heart. Let Him complete the work He began in you. Every lesson learned brings you a step closer to Him. He will allow you to come across difficult people so that you may learn His love, His compassion and forgiveness. He may remove something from your life to help you realize that all you need is Him. He may bring you up against seemingly impossible challenges so you will finally know and believe that you can do all things through Christ. We all have times when we think, “Why do I have to face this God? Everything was going so well!” And then He reminds us that He has a purpose for everything we face. You would not be the woman you are today had you not faced some painful situations that helped develop your character and that showed you God is indeed present in your life.

Prayer: Dear Heavenly Father, I thank You for giving me the strength to face whatever may come my way. I ask that You renew my mind so whenever I face a new challenge, I remain in peace knowing that You have allowed it to develop me and bring glory to Your name.  Help me trust in Your goodness. I love You and I receive Your love and grace. In Jesus name, Amen.
