Pray in the Spirit

“But ye, beloved, building up yourselves on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Ghost” Jude 1:20.

“The only secret of success I know is walking in line with the Word of God, and praying and listening to the Holy Spirit. I simply listen to what the Spirit of God says to do, and then do it.” – Rev. Kenneth E. Hagin

What does it mean to pray in the Spirit? Is it only to pray in tongues; that special heavenly language that God has made available to every believer? It is more. The Bible tells us that God is a spirit and those that worship Him must worship Him in spirit and in truth (see John 4:24). We are a spirit. We possess a soul (a mind, will and emotions) and we live in an earthly body. To pray in the spirit is to connect our spirit with the spirit of the Lord in prayer.

On a daily basis, we are faced with real problems and are fighting in a real spiritual war. We need God’s help like never before. We don’t know what to do in and of ourselves and we can’t see anything in the spirit with our own natural eyes. We need the help of the Holy Spirit to shift us from the natural realm to the spiritual realm. From what we see with our natural eyes to what God sees in the spirit. The spiritual realm is more real than the natural realm in which we live. It is where great things happen, where purposes are birthed, where strongholds are broken, where fear dissipates, and where we see God’s direction for our lives clearly.

Praying in the Spirit is to become aware, keen and sensitive to the spiritual world around you and to begin to see things from God’s point of view.

Prayer: Father God, I desire a closer relationship with You and Your Holy Spirit. Teach me how to pray in the spirit. Awaken me and bring my spirit man to attention. Open my spiritual eyes so I can see. Open my spiritual ears so I can hear Your voice clearly and help me receive in my heart what You are saying to me right now. In Jesus name. Amen.

(Romans 8:26,27; Ephesians 6:18; John 15:7)

  1. Thank you for clarifying that my Sister. Many have not been taught that issue with clarity and instead have gotten caught up in the drama not the truth. Again, thank you.
