Rejoice with others!

“Rejoice with those who rejoice; mourn with those who mourn” Romans 12:15, NIV.

As sisters, we know how to weep with others. Someone experiences loss and we’re there praying and weeping. We know how to be a great source of comfort and that’s good. The challenge we face is learning how to also rejoice with others and be a great source of joy and excitement when God blesses someone in our lives.

I have a bestfriend that has this truth deeply rooted in her heart. She cries with me whenever something bad happens and she goes crazy in rejoicing with me whenever God comes through.

This is usually how it goes down…

Me: Hey lady! I have some news to share with you!
Her: (bracing herself) What happened!?
Me: God blessed us to buy a house!!!
Her: (deep breath) Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!!! Glory to God!!!!!!!! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh! (As she runs around the house)

I love it.

The thing is, she could have had a terrible day. Or, she could still be waiting on God to manifest some things in her life, but she finds a way to rejoice with me in a way that makes me even more excited about what God has done. In our twenty year friendship, I do the same for her. I weep with her and go crazy in rejoicing for her.

I challenge you to be that kind of sister that knows how to weep and rejoice. Don’t just be a source of comfort, be a source of joy too. Even if it’s not your natural personality to go over the top in expressing joy for anyone, do it anyway. It will bless them more than you know. Whether someone got promoted on their job, has purchased a new home, is getting married, or is finally debt-free, be happy for them in the same way you’d want someone to be happy for you!

Prayer: Father God, I thank you for challenging me today. I accept the challenge to not just weep with those who weep, but truly rejoice with those who rejoice. Help me put my feelings to the side, and express my happiness for how you’ve blessed my sister or brother. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
