“And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.” Romans 12:2 (KJV)
Have you ever said or did something you wish you hadn’t? Have you ever made a rash decision that looked right at the time, but later you discovered it was not a good decision to make? If so, you are not alone. Don’t beat yourself up about it. A disciplined mind takes time to develop. If you were homeless for 40 years of your life and you inherited a fortune and became a millionaire overnight, does your mind change to a millionaire mind overnight also? No, it does not. Although you are now rich financially, your mind will take some time to adapt to your new economic status, but it won’t adapt by itself. You will need new information and knowledge in order to retrain your mind to begin thinking like a millionaire and making sound decisions. The same goes for our new life in Christ.
We have had our mind for years and have been accustomed to seeing things a certain way and responding to things a certain way. When we come to know the Lord, our mind must be given new information and knowledge of God’s Word. We can’t serve God with the same unrenewed mind and expect to have a successful life in God. God can help us begin to have the perspective, view, and attitude that pleases Him. It is a continual renewing of our mind with the Word of God that causes an amazing transformation in our lives.
Prayer: Father, thank You for helping me renew my mind. I desire to be all that You created me to be. Help me learn how to renew my mind on a continual basis with Your Word. Show me the right attitude to have, how to see things from Your perspective, and how to respond properly to change and events in my life. In Jesus’ name, Amen.
